Los prIn the context of the challenges of guaranteeing an inclusive, equal and quality education, digital technologies (DT) offer a new way of developing learning opportunities that are personalised for all students, regardless of their abilities and characteristics.
In the case of autistic people, the educational use of DT is an effective strategy for approaching the two principal areas of educational intervention (socio-communication and behaviour). Hence the large quantity of digital educational resources, especially mobile applications (APPS), available from digital catalogues and repositories. Given the range of available resources, teachers need to evaluate them critically in order to choose those that will best facilitate learning, that is, those that are suitable for the educational needs of each person and to the educational intervention. Consequently, teachers need to develop their teacher digital competence (TDC) and to have clear selection and evaluation criteria that enable them to choose digital educational resources effectively.
The present study aims to contribute to this situation from the field of educational research. To do so, the study sets out two general objectives framed in the context of initial teacher training in TDC and the educational attention given to autistic people by means of DT. The first objective is to define a strategy for the initial teacher training in TDC that incorporates the use of DT for educational inclusion. The second objective aims to create an instrument that can evaluate APPS in terms of their relevance to educational interventions with autistic people.
The study’s methodology is Educational Design Research (EDR) implemented in four iterations. All stages of the process have involved experts from different areas and teachers who are either in initial training or already practising. Data have been collected using different techniques: surveys, documentary analysis (narrative review and systematic review), participatory observation, and expert opinions using the Delphi method. The data were processed using qualitative and quantitative techniques.
In line with the aims of the research, the principal results are presented in two proposals and final recommendations: (1) a set of directives and didactic examples on how to work on TDC in initial teacher training from

Brain structural covariance networks in obsessive-compulsive disorder: a graph analysis from the ENIGMA Consortium
Brain structural covariance networks reflect covariation in morphology of different brain areas and are thought to reflect common trajectories in brain development and maturation. Large-scale investigation of structural covariance networks in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) may provide clues to the pathophysiology of this neurodevelopmental disorder. Using T1-weighted MRI scans acquired from 1616 individuals with OCD and 1463 healthy controls across 37 datasets participating in the ENIGMA-OCD Working Group, we calculated intra-individual brain structural covariance networks (using the bilaterally-averaged values of 33 cortical surface areas, 33 cortical thickness values, and six subcortical volumes), in which edge weights were proportional to the similarity between two brain morphological features in terms of deviation from healthy controls (i.e. z-score transformed). Global networks were characterized using measures of network segregation (clustering and modularity), network integration (global efficiency), and their balance (small-worldness), and their community membership was assessed. Hub profiling of regional networks was undertaken using measures of betweenness, closeness, and eigenvector centrality. Individually calculated network measures were integrated across the 37 datasets using a meta-analytical approach. These network measures were summated across the network density range of K = 0.10-0.25 per participant, and were integrated across the 37 datasets using a meta-analytical approach. Compared with healthy controls, at a global level, the structural covariance networks of OCD showed lower clustering (P < 0.0001), lower modularity (P < 0.0001), and lower small-worldness (P = 0.017). Detection of community membership emphasized lower network segregation in OCD compared to healthy controls. At the regional level, there were lower (rank-transformed) centrality values in OCD for volume of caudate nucleus and thalamus, and surface area of paracentral cortex, indicative of altered distribution of brain hubs. Centrality of cingulate and orbito-frontal as well as other brain areas was associated with OCD illness duration, suggesting greater involvement of these brain areas with illness chronicity. In summary, the findings of this study, the largest brain structural covariance study of OCD to date, point to a less segregated organization of structural covariance networks in OCD, and reorganization of brain hubs. The segregation findings suggest a possible signature of altered brain morphometry in OCD, while the hub findings point to OCD-related alterations in trajectories of brain development and maturation, particularly in cingulate and orbitofrontal regions
Marine biotoxins in the Catalan littoral: could biosensors be integrated into monitoring programmes?
This article describes the electrochemical enzyme sensors and
immunosensors that have been developed by our groups for
the detection of marine biotoxin okadaic acid (OA), and discusses
the possibility of integrating them into monitoring programmes.
The enzyme sensors for OA reported herein are
based on the inhibition of immobilised protein phosphatase 2A
(PP2A) by this toxin and the electrochemical measurement of
the enzyme activity through the use of appropriate enzyme substrates,
which are electrochemically active after dephosphorylation
by the enzyme. The electrochemical immunosensors described
in this article are based on a competitive indirect Enzyme-
Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay (ciELISA), using alkaline
phosphatase (ALP) or horseradish peroxidase (HRP) as labels,
and an enzymatic recycling system with diaphorase (DI). The
biosensors presented herein have been applied to the analysis
of dinoflagellates, mussels and oysters. Preliminary validations
with colorimetric assays and LC-MS/MS have demonstrated
the possibility of using the developed biotools for the preliminary
screening of marine biotoxins in field or cultured samples, offering
complementary information to chromatography. In conclusion,
although optimisation of some experimental parameters is
still required, the integration of biosensors into monitoring programmes
is viable and may provide advantages over other analytical
techniques in terms of analysis time, simplicity, selectivity,
sensitivity, disposability of electrodes and cost effectiveness

Neural response to the observable self in social anxiety disorder
Background: Distorted images of the observable self are considered crucial in the development and maintenance of social anxiety. We generated an experimental situation in which participants viewed themselves from an observer's perspective when exposed to scrutiny and evaluation by others. Method: Twenty patients with social anxiety disorder (SAD) and 20 control subjects were assessed using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during the public exposure of pre-recorded videos in which they were each shown performing a verbal task. The examiners acted as the audience in the experiment and rated performance. Whole-brain functional maps were computed using Statistical Parametric Mapping. Results: Robust activation was observed in regions related to self-face recognition, emotional response and general arousal in both study groups. Patients showed significantly greater activation only in the primary visual cortex. By contrast, they showed significant deactivation or smaller activation in dorsal frontoparietal and anterior cingulate cortices relevant to the cognitive control of negative emotion. Task-related anxiety ratings revealed a pattern of negative correlation with activation in this frontoparietal/cingulate network. Importantly, the relationship between social anxiety scores and neural response showed an inverted-U function with positive correlations in the lower score range and negative correlations in the higher range. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that exposure to scrutiny and evaluation in SAD may be associated with changes in cortical systems mediating the cognitive components of anxiety. Disorder severity seems to be relevant in shaping the neural response pattern, which is distinctively characterized by a reduced cortical response in the most severe cases
Relevance of onychodystrophy in patients with chronic venous disease
Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
Lower Locus Coeruleus MRI intensity in patients with late-life major depression
Background: The locus coeruleus (LC) is the major noradrenergic source in the central nervous system. Structural alterations in the LC contribute to the pathophysiology of different neuropsychiatric disorders, which may increase to a variable extent the likelihood of developing neurodegenerative conditions. The characterization of such alterations may therefore help to predict progression to neurodegenerative disorders. Despite the LC cannot be visualized with conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), specific MRI sequences have been developed to infer its structural integrity. Methods: We quantified LC signal Contrast Ratios (LCCRs) in late-life major depressive disorder (MDD) (n = 37, 9 with comorbid aMCI), amnestic Mild Cognitive Impairment (aMCI) (n = 21, without comorbid MDD), and healthy controls (HCs) (n = 31), and also assessed the putative modulatory effects of comorbidities and other clinical variables. Results: LCCRs were lower in MDD compared to aMCI and HCs. While no effects of aMCI comorbidity were observed, lower LCCRs were specifically observed in patients taking serotonin/norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). Conclusion: Our results do not support the hypothesis that lower LCCRs characterize the different clinical groups that may eventually develop a neurodegenerative disorder. Conversely, our results were specifically observed in patients with late-life MDD taking SNRIs. Further research with larger samples is warranted to ascertain whether medication or particular clinical features of patients taking SNRIs are associated with changes in LC neurons
